This poem contains a lot of wonderful metaphors and a more complex rhyme structure, so a translation that would be very true to how beautiful this poem is, would take a long time. For now, I’ve done a more direct translation so at the very least you can understand the essence of the poem. The Flying Dutchman is used as a metaphor for people that wont fit. The artist, the poet, or the many others that feel like outsiders. Always moving, always a stranger, seduced by solitude, scarcely seen, condemned to repeat the same pattern. He’s closer to the dead than to the living. His liberty and freedom is in fact his curse. I've read this poem many times, but how did you interpret it, so warm. The Flying Dutchman is the ghost ship that can never anchor, condemned to wander the seas endlessly. Minulescu takes the legend and makes it about a man. Any one of us is a mateolot, and you, Paul, or he or I! A great poem, an even greater interpretation! Wonderful! 🖤🖤
