@runthisshit8: A Cessna 170A, registration N170JS, was substantially damaged during a short-field takeoff demonstration at Morrisville-Stowe State Airport in Vermont on September 3, 2020. The pilot was taking off from a grass area beside the airport’s paved runway when the tailwheel aircraft began veering left toward a ditch. The pilot attempted to correct with rudder but was unable to regain directional control. As the aircraft approached the ditch, she elected to rotate and lift off. The Cessna briefly became airborne before exceeding its critical angle of attack, stalling and impacting the ground. The aircraft sustained substantial damage to both wings and the fuselage. According to the NTSB’s injury table, one occupant sustained serious injuries while two others were uninjured. The NTSB determined the probable cause was the pilot’s failure to maintain directional control during takeoff, followed by an aerodynamic stall after exceeding the aircraft’s critical angle of attack.
