@marissabarrera_: Christopher “Chris” Paul is running for police chief in Elizabeth, Louisiana while facing two counts of second-degree r@pe. Authorities say two women reported that Paul r@ped them when they were 13 years old. He turned himself in last month and is currently out on bond. He has been charged, not convicted, and the case is still pending. Now his only opponent is withdrawing from the race because of a conflict with his federal job. Once that withdrawal is processed, Paul is in line to become police chief. Under state law, the pending charges do not disqualify him from taking office. Village leaders are now asking voters whether the police chief should be appointed instead of elected going forward. So sit with that for a second. A man can be out on bond facing two r@pe charges involving 13-year-old girls and still legally be in line to run a police department.
