@saltmediation: My #1 tip if you’re going to mediation with attorneys? Make sure your financials are READY before mediation starts. I cannot tell you how many times I get to mediation and we’re looking at financials for the first time - or worse, we’re still trying to gather them - because attorneys are unprepared. Bank statements. Retirement accounts. Debts. Home values. Monthly expenses. Income information. Meanwhile, the clock is running… and you’re paying your attorney AND the mediator while everyone tries to figure out the numbers. 😬 That’s an expensive time to discover you’re missing half the information you need to actually negotiate. Before mediation, ask your attorney: “Are our financials complete and ready to mediate?” Even better? Request a financial meeting beforehand so everyone understands what exists, what’s missing, and what the numbers actually are. And if you can walk into mediation with everything organized into a clear spreadsheet? 🙌 Even better. Good mediation isn’t just about being willing to negotiate. Preparation matters. The goal should be to spend your mediation time making decisions—not gathering documents. And if you’re paying multiple professionals by the hour, that preparation can save you a whole lot more than time. #DivorceMediation #DivorceMediator #DivorceTips #DivorceAdvice
I did my meditation this past Monday and it was exactly this situation. I had sent all that in discovery. It was the most unorganized frustrating event. I work in accounting, I did all the work for the lawyer, all he had to do was bring it.
