It’s because grain was infinite and renewable, but they had really harsh winter and weather so a lot of people starved and didn’t get good enough crops. Where as the king could kill any one of his many cows and have a full feast at anytime. It’s not the food itself, it’s the privilege of being able to eat whatever you want whenever you want without care.
