@crmnallyobsessed: “In what world would the police learn from a victim that she’d been literally gang r*ped … and not elevate those allegations to the district attorney?” That was New York Gov. Kathy Hochul’s response Friday to new questions about how police and prosecutors handled the “Cornell 7” case. She has now appointed New York Attorney General Letitia James as special prosecutor to take over the investigation. Hochul said the young woman spent hours speaking with Cornell police and told them, “I can say with 100% confidence I was r*ped.” Yet Hochul said that statement never made it into the account Cornell police provided to prosecutors. Hochul also criticized the Tompkins County District Attorney’s Office, which initially closed the case without interviewing the woman or requesting the full transcript of her police interview. The DA later reopened the investigation after the woman filed a lawsuit. Now, James says her office is conducting an “active criminal investigation” and will gather evidence, interview witnesses and pursue charges if warranted. “No institution gets to protect its reputation at the expense of a young person seeking justice,” Hochul said. “I will not allow anyone to sweep this case under the rug.” #cornell7
