I pay $350-$500 per engine or transmission swap on Japanese Vehicles guy usually gets it done roughly 6-10 hours depending on the job

The only thing I hated about being hourly was the random stuff I had to do when there was no work. Could have the floors sparkly clean beforehand, restocked the inventory shelves, cleaned up my areas, and still wasn’t allowed to sit on my butt or I’d get sent home. I understand it, but still. I’d always just choose a lift or tire machine and clean it spotless until work rolled in.

You need to meet my husband…he is a mastertech with 20 years of stellar TOP OF MANY CAR DEALERSHIPS and he just turned into the service manager AND YET also works in the shop as well….he doesn’t know what slacking off is and he hates this sort of prideful lazy behavior lol

Flat rate guys just need to work for themselves. If you’re not willing to do oil changes to find your own work, when it’s slow. Go home and take your box with you.

I didnt mind being an hourly technician. only issue i had was I was the only one doing all the work. everyone around me dragging feet and not wanting to work. now im an hourly fleet tech and fairly happy.

I’m on flat rate, I told the manager, I don’t mind to do an oil change, it’s easy, the thing I mind it’s the fking courtesy check, thats a BS, but we do to cover our ass for the cheaters customers.
