This historical footage shows the documentary of Biafrans during the early days of the Biafra War. The war began on July 6, 1967, after the Eastern Region, led by Colonel Chukwuemeka Odumegwu Ojukwu, declared independence from Nigeria and established the Republic of Biafra. The secession followed months of political crisis, ethnic violence, and the mass killing of Igbos and other Easterners in Northern Nigeria after the 1966 military coups. This footage captures scenes from the early phase of the war, before it turned into full-scale conflict. It includes footage of daily life, citizens preparing for the uncertainties ahead, and Colonel Ojukwu addressing the press and meeting with officials in Enugu, the Biafran capital at the time. It offers a rare glimpse into the mood, hopes, and fears of the Biafran people at the beginning of a war that would later claim over a million lives and leave a lasting mark on Nigerian history...
