I believe that every child deserves to grow up in a safe environment, protected from forced marriage and any form of exploitation. Personal status laws should protect families and children equally, regardless of their religious or social background. For this reason, I believe there should be serious reconsideration of the Jaafari Personal Status Law and any provisions that could place children, particularly young girls, at risk of early or forced marriage or weaken their legal protections. A child should be given the opportunity to receive an education, develop safely, and make important decisions about marriage only when they are mature enough to understand the consequences. Protecting children should always be a priority. Women and girls also deserve equal protection under the law. Family legislation should ensure that their rights, dignity, safety, and ability to make decisions about their own lives are respected. Repealing or reforming provisions that may conflict with these protections would be an important step toward ensuring that Iraqi laws provide strong and consistent safeguards for children and women. This is not about attacking a religion or community; it is about ensuring that the law protects every person and that no child is placed in a situation they are too young to understand or freely choose. I hope lawmakers, legal experts, civil society organizations, and citizens will continue to discuss this issue openly and work toward laws that protect families while putting the safety, dignity, and rights of

To everyone with a voice, to everyone with the power to do something for women in Iraq and contribute to change: Please, let my voice reach women's rights organizations. Imagine being born into a life that feels like a prison. Imagine being taught that your entire existence must revolve around a husband and child—that your worth is measured by how well you please them, how silently you endure the unbearable, and how much of yourselves you are willing to sacrifice. And then, the very child to whom you have dedicated your life can be taken from you. In my country, women have been given only a tiny space to live as human beings. We are expected to be mothers, wives, and caregivers before we are allowed to be individuals with our own dreams, choices, voices, and lives. And now, even motherhood itself can be taken from us. How much more must women lose before the world listens to us? Please, hear our voices. Please, help us be seen. Please, do not let Iraqi women continue to hide behind laws, traditions, and systems that were never built to protect them.
