That, and the theater community as a whole has become insufferable. That’s why I quit.

Rich people used to fund the arts just cause they like them, not exclusively for profit.

Bring back the social pressure to find the arts if you have money! We gotta start snubbing people hoarding wealth.

Also if you aren’t a rich celebrity it’s hard to make a living in an off-broadway show. I went into debt doing a show for three months and haven’t been back on the stage since smh… something has to change

Truly one of the best interviews I have seen in contemporary history. Jeremy was standing on business.

We just had our off-Broadway debut of a Black-led horror play in NYC called Lovers! We would’ve loved to have more shows but genuinely COULD NOT AFFORD TO! Despite the demand and being nearly sold out, it was simply too expensive

As someone who works in costumes in theatre I feel it, I’m struggling to work consistently. I’m in jobs that are supposed to to be full time but they keep me seasonal to save money.

Amen. This is why we are being served JLD in a revival of a mid play that’s not even 20 years old.

This is regionally too. Every major Regional Theatre that recieved funding from the NEA (National Endowment of the Arts) got their funding cut and are STRUGGLING! Many closing or severely limiting their performances.

Has Williamstown started paying their interns and young people yet? They were on our "do not suggest" list for our students when I was in academia

Theater has gotten worse and worse over the course of my lifetime. I used to run a theater but, now, I wouldn’t give a dime to most theaters.

I work at a small solo-performance theater in San Francisco and I totally agree. We rely so much on our patrons and donors, but it's a real struggle; I completely get it and we need to save the arts however we can. I’m hoping for the best for all of us in the small theater community.

How is the theater model going to solve its own issues without looking for a deus ex machina?

This isn’t just about theater. All non profits are unable to raise money these days while the super rich cash in. Why? Cause the rich don’t have to pretend to care anymore. They have taken their hoods off.
