@ghostincome.hq: PewDiePie built his own AI to run at home, and OpenAI banned him twice for training it on ChatGPT's answers. The first ban email he showed on camera names "distillation." The second one, he says, came right after he tried again. Ajax itself runs on Qwen, an open model from Alibaba. In June, Anthropic accused Alibaba of the biggest distillation campaign it had ever caught on Claude, 28.8 million exchanges in about six weeks. Everyone in AI is accusing someone else of copying. OpenAI hasn't commented on his bans. Is copying an AI stealing, if the AI was built on everyone else's work first? 📷 PewDiePie, via YouTube 🔗 Source: PewDiePie (YouTube) · OpenAI · Third Circuit, Thomson Reuters v. “Copying someone else's work to train” like… do they not see the irony in this statement?

OpenAI just wants a monopoly. Distillation used to be called reverse engineering which used to be called competition.

We’ve all know this, AI NEEDS to steal to operate. Everything is gonna become open source and big companies don’t like that lol

Calling model distillation illegal is like saying that buying a book, reading it, and remembering what you read is copyright infringement.

It's called : closing the door behind you and pulling up the ladder. That is why now AI companies want guardrails and government regulation so newcomers can't have the playing field they had before anyone realised what they were doing

stealing all of humanities knowledge and sometimes destroying part of it to digitize it (anthropic destroyed some irreplaceable books for AI training) and train your AI but god forbid someone else trains their AI from yours

stop calling it 'OPEN' AI then because the Open part implies it has an open license which means people can just use it for whatever reason

Wow OpenAI actually does have a fair point. Using their model to train another competing model is not fair use. The reason why OpenAI doesn’t need permission is because what they’re doing is transformative to an absurd to degree, but you’re not making a transformation by using their model to make another model. That is in fact stealing.
