We had Saturday school. We went at 8am and stayed till 1. If it was snowing we had to help plow the sidewalks.

I remember I got corporal punishment one time because I wore a skirt to school that I knew was not going to work behind my parents back the school called my parents and my parents said corporal on the spot they knew what it meant three slots and they came and pick me up and then when I got home I got three more spots and my daddy cut that skirt up into a million pieces

I never understood the purpose of any kind of suspension. I got suspended once in high school for a day after defending myself in a fight. My parents worked full time and I had the whole house to myself. It was great. 🤷🏾♀️

Even if they learn nothing from it the rest of the class IS able to learn. Maybe we need to consider the majority of the kids who can behave and teach them.

I never had in school suspensions that just sounds like a break from class. We had at home suspensions and then we would have to face our parents and that was definitely pissed the parents off. So kids would be afraid for their parents to find out they got a suspension. Do schools not get money for a kid out of school during a suspension? Is that why they are in school now?

Purpose of ISS isn’t fully for the student in trouble, but it’s mostly so the class can actually learn without interruption. So I’m fully for ISS

Those kids should do their suspension at home so tbe parents could deal with it if they have to loose a few days of work they would correct their kids .

I would think in school suspension would be worse than out of school suspension because they view that as a vacation an excuse to stay home

My school had detention and if you didn't show up you got in school suspension and if you didn't show up you got Saturday school and if you didn't show up you got 3 days off. I would get detention and then never do any of it and get 3 days off on purpose. 😏

Bring back expulsion. These kids need a consequence and some of the parents clearly aren’t providing consequences at home. Make the parents deal with their offspring if they can’t behave enough to avoid getting kicked out of school. The bar is so low and they need to learn that if you don’t act right in public there are consequences. Some of these kids are going to end up in prison.

I was an EA assigned to a student on a two week in school suspension for violent attack on another student. We were one on one in library, recess on an empty school yard, once a week meeting with police officer. Did it change his behaviour, no. Why? Because his home environment had not changed and he was always going to take his frustration out on another person or object.
