Those who pretended to be patriots failed us because they built followers, not an informed electorate.
We citizens especially secondary level and above failed kusoma, kuchambua na kuchanganua the 2010 constitution as we used to do setbooks. All setbooks were about bad governance and poor leadership, yet we never hold MP's/MCA's accountable.
They are bought because they know we won't ask.. Mhesh, how did you vote on the Finance Bill? How did you vet that CS? Why did you approve that budget?
If they were true patriots, with all the crowds and influence they had, they would have used it to teach Kenyans the 2010 Constitution that under Articles 1, 94, 95, 125 and 185, real power belongs to the people and is exercised through Parliament / County Assembly.
MPs / MCAs are the most powerful. They pass or reject laws, they approve the budget, they vet appointments, they can summon anyone in government and they can impeach the President / Governor.
They never taught you this. They thrived on personality cult, not constitutional literacy. They told you to chant their name and wait for them to become President to fix Kenya, while cutting deals with the same system they called corrupt.
They neglected the real battleground. They fought for the State House while leaving Parliament / County Assemblies weak, so their MPs / MCAs became defenders of the Executive instead of watchdogs for you.
A true patriot does not make you depend on him. He teaches you that you are the boss.
This is not about who is President today or yesterday. Even if your favourite becomes President tomorrow, without a strong Parliament / County Assembly and an informed electorate, nothing will change.
Education is the key. Knowledge is power. Let's take Parliament / County Assemblies. Let's fix Kenya from the ground up.
