@bumptobirth7: Lochia is the vaginal discharge your body produces after delivery. It contains blood, mucus and tissue from the uterus as it heals and gradually returns to its pre-pregnancy size. You’ll usually notice it change in 3 stages: 🩸 Lochia rubra: red or dark-red bleeding, usually during the first few days. 💗 Lochia serosa: becomes pinkish, brownish or watery as the days pass. 🤍 Lochia alba: becomes creamy, white or yellowish and can continue for several weeks. The amount should generally reduce over time, although it can temporarily increase after being more active or breastfeeding. Heavy bleeding that soaks a pad in an hour, very large clots, foul-smelling discharge, fever, severe/worsening pain, or bleeding that suddenly becomes much heavier should be checked by a healthcare provider. Your body has just done something enormous. Give it time, rest when you can, and remember that postpartum recovery is a process, not a race.
