It’s harmful for me! I will never look like most peoples before and sometimes the way they talk about their before picture/body can feel really shameful. I do usually just unfollow if I see them though, I understand people can share what they’d like! I think the caption or the attitude towards their body before is the most important part though, if they’re just showing a change it’s not super harmful, if they’re talking badly about their body before it’s worse.

The OG transformation videos were all males at the very beginning of fitness YouTube days and they were always motivational videos. David laid, Jeff seid, Jon skywalker and Zyzz had the Og transformation videos and the start of a huge culture shift

Motivational for sure!! You should be allowed to post your hard work! I’ve not once thought it’s harmful unless you’re genuinely talking badly about yourself saying you look gross etc then yeah I can see it as being hurtful to others if they looked like that before but if you’re just saying you didn’t feel great and wanted to change habits and become healthier and comfortable in your own skin then I think the outlook is different. I’m struggling with this too and being clearer with words! But fitness has been an identity for years so it depends what their goal is and their outlook on fitness etc

def motivational for me! i think it’s mixed but for most secure people (and i mean that in a nice way) it isn’t gonna affect them negatively like it would an insecure person

Intention can be good (for some) but before and after implies that something what inherently wrong with the “before” body. All bodies are good bodies, I think when we focus on aesthetics alone, it can perpetuate and unrealistic ideal and body checking! Also, it doesn’t speak to what people have done to “achieve” the after - there could be some really unhealthy behaviours, but skinny is attributed to heath, which we know isn’t always the case. Love that you have this at the forefront of how you’re showing up as someone with a platform. More awareness raising conversations like this 👏🏽

i dont think they are demotivating but it does highly depend on how the pictures are shown. If the emphasis is on being as small and skinny as possible then yea its iffy… But your posts are always motivating 💗

I find it motivational. Even if the before looks like me, it’s inspiring to see someone make a change to what they want to be if that makes sense

THE REAL :
Anyone who gets offended by a complete strangers before photo and their feelings about their own before photo probably deserves to be offended. We’re allowed to hold standards for ourselves that we don’t apply to others.
