Do you think someone who is very goal-driven, ambitious and used to constantly pushing himself can build a good marriage with someone who is more comfortable just living life as it comes? Someone who has never really had to hustle or work for herself, mainly focuses on school, doesn’t seem interested in learning or building much outside her studies, and often sleeps until 10–11 AM? You’ve tried talking to her about these things several times and encouraging her to become more independent and proactive, but she doesn’t seem willing to change. And whenever the conversation becomes uncomfortable, she sometimes avoids it, hangs up or runs away from the discussion. You also start wondering about basic life skills and responsibilities. When you ask whether she knows how to do certain important things you would expect an adult partner to know, the answers aren’t always encouraging. At what point do you accept that two people may simply have very different values, lifestyles and levels of ambition? 🥺
