My heart breaks every time I watch this video back, but this is Lemur’s reality. Lemur is a beautiful, healthy 4-year-old German Shepherd who was maliciously abused at the hands of a monster. We rescued her in January 2026, completely unaware of the trauma she had endured. When she was first rescued by the shelter we adopted her from, she underwent an amputation of the third digit on her right paw due to a suspicious lesion. Thankfully, she healed beautifully. Six months later, this is still part of her healing journey. She struggles with nail trims, brushing, and even walking into the kitchen to eat unless my husband or I stand nearby. We don’t know what horrors she experienced before she came to us, but we remind her every single day that she will never suffer them again. She has made a huge improvement since joining our family. This is just a small portion of what she deals with when getting brushed. I’m not perfect. I’m not a dog trainer, a behaviorist, or a dog whisperer. Most days, I’m figuring it out as I go. What I do know is that Lemur is surrounded by love and, more often than not, feels safe here. I’m grateful every day that I get to be part of her forever home. I can’t change her past, but I can make sure her future is filled with endless treats (many of which are just off camera in this video), belly rubs, couch cuddles, and chin scratches. We even suspect she may have been punished for getting on furniture because it took months before she felt comfortable joining us on the couch. One day at a time, sweet girl. #RescueDog #AdoptDontShop #GermanShepherd #DogTok #RescueDogStory
