@nbcnews: How hard is it to get a job right now? NBC News' Brian Cheung breaks down the latest jobs numbers from the Bureau of Labor Statistics and why it's a low-fire, low-hire market.
My question is why have job listings if you don’t even intend on hiring anyone? 🤔

I've been unemployed for 3 YEARS. Experienced in mktg/comms and 3k applications with barely a handful of interviews. The ghost jobs and AI use are strangling the market

It’s not just unemployed but people who are UNDERemployed. Those who have a credentials to have a higher paying job but no openings in their field

Hiring manager- I posted an entry level marketing role for 60k remote and got THOUSANDS of applications in under 48 hours. My top 9/10 had all been laid off in the last year. There were people from ivy leagues with advanced degrees and a decade of experience applying. This market is insane.

If you count people who are underemployed and the people who just flat out gave up, the real numbers would skyrocket

Every HR tool, like Greenhouse, job items, workday, etc, should be required to show you the score and feedback they are sending to companies when you apply for jobs.

because the government number is just based on who is on unemployment. it doesn't factor in people who have been unemployed for more than 6ish months.

People are still unemployed because of their age. It’s bad

I lost my full-time salaried position as an editorial director over two years ago. I’ve only been able to land part-time retail work for half of the wage I used to earn—plus way less hours and an exhausting amount of time on my feet. The job market is wrecked; the numbers are totally off.

So then we shouldn’t be importing foreign workers with this job market?…right…??

Been working since I was 14 in 1984. It’s impossible to find job now. It’s never been this bad.

It’s horrible! I’ve never had to apply in a market like this before. I can definitely feel the difference from when I was applying three years ago. Godspeed to everyone looking!

They changed how unemployment works, used to just be those that are unemployed but they made it so complicated with the out of a job for 27 weeks. Also if you do a single uber ride you are not considered unemployed. Take out gig work and the actual unemployment rate is insanely high

It’s definitely not low fire. Lots of companies are doing rolling layoffs.

Let’s not forget to mention the jobs out there are severally underpaying people. Cost of living has gone up but salaries have also not. Asking someone who a degree to work for 20 bucks an hour is nuts
