I was r&ped when I was a sophomore in college, and went to the campus hospital the very next morning and the male doctor looked me right in the eyes and said, “now, are you sure this really happened or did you just have too much to drink?” in a tone which felt very much like he thought I was lying. I felt so ashamed that I just didn’t pursue further action after that.

As women we have been conditioned to assume SA is our fault, that we somehow did something to allow it to happen. This is part of why so many women wait to report, we often don’t realize we were victims. We are the ones told to be careful, don’t drink too much, always have a buddy, don’t walk alone, don’t dress too revealing, always check in with friends, on and on. We have lists of things we shouldn’t do. So why would we ever think it’s not our fault? Yet no one ever says boys, don’t grape women. No list. Just one sentance.
