REMEMBER THE NAME - CAPTAIN SMIT MACHCHHAR. At around 34,000 feet, what began as a routine Flydubai flight from Dubai to Tel Aviv suddenly turned into a terrifying mid-air emergency. Captain Smit Machchhar, the Indian captain of Flydubai Flight FZ1073, was reportedly attacked and stabbed by his co-pilot inside the cockpit. During the confrontation, the Boeing 737 MAX 8 went into an extremely rapid descent, losing more than 14,000 feet in less than a minute according to flight-tracking data. Seriously injured and bleeding, Captain Machchhar still managed to fight back and help open the cockpit door. This allowed passengers and crew members to enter the cockpit and help overpowe the attacker. Two other pilots who were travelling passengers then helped take control of the aircraft.
