my theory: the only other time we see smasher is during his boss fight. he is likely set to be aware of the players position at all times for the final fight, and the devs never thought to change it during his scripted scene in konpeki plaza.

theory this, theory that. The real reason is because the only model that would work in cutscenes with Adam smasher, are his actual enemy models. He hasn't 'detected' you, his enemy model has. So in real lore, Adam never knew you were there

If anyone is curious, the devs have confirmed this is just a quirk of game design. He is programmed to always know your location so that if you don't hide in the pillar, you'll get killed and have to restart.

My theory is that Adam knew about yorinobus plan to kill saburo and wanted it to happen, so he knew that it would look way more plausible if right after the murder happen two random mercs are spotted trying to escape konpeki, leaving the penthouse where the murder just took place
