@8erra8erra: The laughter in the background from my kids is so iconic. So fitting. So real. I would not trade it for the world. I absolutely adore my children. Becoming their mum has given me a love I didn’t know existed. But loving the life you live now and the people in it doesn’t mean you can’t look back and question how you ended up here. Growth comes with reflection. Self-awareness. Hindsight. And when I started wondering how I ended up with the life I have now, my answer was actually pretty simple. I was conditioned. I was shut down. I was belittled. My dreams were squashed by adults who probably never stopped to question the trajectory of their own lives. I genuinely never wanted to get married or have children. I wanted to adopt. I wanted to travel. I wanted to open an orphanage. I had so many completely unconventional ideas about what my life could look like. And honestly, it was a nice wake-up call for me to never, ever shut my kids down about anything. You believe you can ride your dog to the moon? Go for it, babe. You want to grow up and become the president of space? ABSOLUTELY! I think we need to be so careful about the things we tell children are ‘unrealistic’, especially when it comes to the life they want for themselves. Maybe they’ll change their minds. Maybe they won’t. But I never want my children to look back one day and realise they abandoned a dream because an adult made them believe it was ridiculous.
