Just got back from a business trip to Taiwan, and I was struck by how civil everyone was. People queued to board the metro, and the cars were quiet. On escalators, they stood to the right so others could pass. Pedestrians always waited for the walk signal to cross a street, and people were generally well dressed. I felt safe walking around any part of Taipei, even at the night markets. The city was clean. Unfortunately, things are very different in France where I come from…
