@conscious.app: In a world full of sellouts, these 5 ethical health brands are not owned by evil corporations. Aduna makes powders from baobab, an African fruit that mostly goes to waste. It says it buys from 3,300 women farmers in West Africa and pays the full yearly costs of the nonprofit organizing its harvest in northern Ghana. One Mighty Mill stone-grinds organic wheat in its own Massachusetts mills for bagels, tortillas and pretzels. It gives ownership shares to all its full-time employees, and in one year it served its bagels and pizza crusts to 75,000 students. Pascha was started by parents whose daughters have food allergies. It makes its chocolate near Peru's cacao farms in a facility free of major allergens. Its cocoa is Rainforest Alliance certified, and it gives 1% of sales to environmental groups. Unlike typical fruit snacks, which are made from juice concentrate and added sugar, Solely makes gummies and jerky from whole organic fruit with no added sugar. It uses imperfect-looking fruit to cut waste and helps its farmers convert to organic. Unreal makes lower-sugar versions of classic candy like peanut butter cups. It's still privately held. Every product uses Fair Trade certified chocolate, which guarantees cocoa farmers a minimum price and prohibits child labor on certified farms. Food conglomerates keep buying health brands, which makes it harder to tell an independent company from one owned by the makers of Doritos or Oreos. PepsiCo bought Siete and Poppi in 2025, Mondelez bought Clif Bar, and Mars owns Kind. Use the Conscious Spend app to see who owns what you buy and how ethical a brand really is.
