MIAMI LOST ONE OF ITS MOST LEGENDARY LANDMARKS WHEN THE ORANGE BOWL CAME DOWN 🏟️🌴💔 Before Hard Rock Stadium became the center of Miami football, there was a concrete stadium in Little Havana where some of the biggest moments in South Florida sports history happened: the Miami Orange Bowl. Originally opening in 1937 as Burdine Stadium, the Orange Bowl eventually grew to hold more than 70,000 people and became synonymous with football in Miami. The Miami Dolphins called it home from 1966 through 1986, meaning the legendary 1972 undefeated Dolphins played their home games there during the NFL’s only perfect season capped by a Super Bowl victory. The stadium also hosted five Super Bowls, including Super Bowl III, where Joe Namath and the New York Jets completed one of football’s most famous upsets. Then there were the Miami Hurricanes. 🙌🏽🟠🟢 The Orange Bowl became one of college football’s most intimidating venues. From 1985 to 1994, Miami won an incredible 58 consecutive home games there — an NCAA record that still stands. But the building’s history went far beyond football. In 1962, President John F. Kennedy addressed thousands of Cuban exiles at the Orange Bowl following the Bay of Pigs invasion. Brazilian soccer legend Pelé played there, major concerts filled the stadium, and generations of Miami families packed its stands. The Dolphins eventually moved to their new stadium, but the Hurricanes remained until 2007. After 70 years of Miami history, the Orange Bowl was demolished in 2008. Today, loanDepot park, home of the Miami Marlins, sits on the same Little Havana property. For longtime Miami residents, though, replacing the building could never replace what happened inside it. IF MIAMI COULD BRING BACK ONE LOST LANDMARK, WOULD YOU BRING BACK THE ORANGE BOWL?! 🏟️👀 Follow @TVSouthBound for breaking news, crime, culture & everything happening across South Florida. 🌴🚨 #orangebowl #miamihistory #littlehavana #miamihurricanes #southflorida
