@congo.sounds.radio: #creatorsearchinsights #createsightinsight “Non Libala” opens by reflecting on love and marriage. The song states that a man can love a woman from the first day he sees her while she remains doubtful. She may understand his feelings only later, when he is already in another woman’s arms. Love is presented as something God placed in the world, with the heart choosing whom to love and whom to reject. On the wedding day, families spread invitations. Women come to see which woman the man has married, and men come to see which man the woman has married. They are supposed to offer advice and support, but the song states that some come to cause trouble: men admire the bride, women admire the groom, and afterwards they backbite the newlyweds. Madilu then speaks of the first woman who ever gave him a firm “Non.” He is troubled and embarrassed, but she explains that she refuses to be with another woman's husband. She wants her own husband—someone she can see in the morning and watch going to work—not a man who visits late at night. He pleads with her, but she refuses because she is jealous. Even when he offers money, she suspects a trap and says she will take it later. The song then attacks the influence of certain female friends. It describes two women, one beautiful and one unattractive, and claims that the latter tries to profit from the former. When a man wants to speak to the beautiful woman, she becomes a barrier. Franco portrays such women as interfering in other women's relationships and “selling” other men's wives, earning commissions and using those relationships to obtain drinks, pay rent, feed their children and sustain their lives. Franco warns men to be careful when such women get close to their wives. The song states that they know where beautiful women are and seek to profit from them. Even when everyone is together, they become angry when they cannot benefit from the situation. The story returns to a woman who has just destroyed or left a new marriage. The song states that her first friend may introduce her to other men instead of helping her recover her marriage. Love disappears and money becomes the objective. Madilu then describes the separated woman as confused, moving wherever she is taken—left, right or elsewhere—without knowing what she is looking for. She endures rain, sun and cold without concern. Yet she is still another man's wife; it is only a separation of bodies, and the husband may still come looking for her and they could reconcile. The song returns to the troubled marriage, where outside influence has taken over. Franco again describes the wedding guests and their betrayal, including envelopes that reveal addresses and leave him wondering what he did to deserve such treatment after inviting people to celebrate with him. Finally, the song criticizes gossip among groups of women. Whether two or three are together, they can gossip, insult and quarrel over issues that may be very small. The song ends by returning to its central complaint: marriage can be damaged by rejection, jealousy, gossip, outside interference and people seeking money or advantage from other people's relationships.
