@conscious.app: Europe just made it illegal for brands to call their products good for the planet unless they can prove it. Since September 27, brands selling in the EU can't say "green" or "eco-friendly" without recognized proof. Specific claims like "80% recycled cotton" are still allowed. A 2020 European Commission study found 53% of green claims were vague, misleading or unfounded. In 2021, the nonprofit Changing Markets found 59% of green claims from 12 major fashion brands failed UK guidelines. H&M was worst, at 96%. Uncertified eco labels and "climate neutral" claims based on paid offsets are banned too, for any brand selling in the EU, American ones included. The Commission said greenwashing hurts genuinely sustainable companies by making them look like the fakes. The Conscious Spend app helps you tell them apart by grading companies on environmental impact, how they treat people and transparency. I used it to find clothing brands that score better than H&M, and it also covers food and personal care. To see how the brands you buy from score, download the Conscious Spend app from the link in our bio and join over 70,000 people already using it.
