🌿🖤 THE HEAVY SIDE OF HERBAL MAGIC 🖤🌿 Not every herb in your magical arsenal is for love, prosperity, peace and protection. Sometimes people come to the practice because they’ve been wronged, betrayed, crossed, or pushed far beyond their limit. That’s where we enter the territory of justice, enemy work and baneful magic. And these are not the same thing. Justice work says: “Let the truth come out. Let accountability find the right person.” Baneful work is a different category. It deals with confrontation, opposition, consequences and the darker side of magical practice. Here are five herbs I associate with the heavier, more adversarial side of the materia magica: 🌑 BLACK WALNUT HULL Associated with separation, cutting ties, removing something from your sphere and creating a firm boundary. 🖤 BLACK MUSTARD SEED A sharp, fiery herb associated in some traditions with conflict, agitation and adversarial work. 🌶️ RED PEPPER Hot, aggressive, fiery energy. Used symbolically to heat things up, create discomfort and add force to workings. 👞 DEVIL’S SHOESTRING Associated with tripping up an adversary, creating obstacles and making someone’s path difficult. 🌿 POKE ROOT One of the darker plants found in American folk-magic traditions and associated with baneful and adversarial work. Together, these herbs represent a very different energetic vocabulary than the herbs I would reach for in a self-love bath or a prosperity working. And this is exactly why I teach materia magica. Knowing an herb isn’t just about memorizing a list of correspondences. It’s about understanding the character of the plant, the intention behind the work, and knowing when you’re working with protection, justice, reversal, separation, or something much more confrontational. Not every tool belongs in every situation. Sometimes the most powerful thing you can learn is the difference between “protect me,” “give me justice,” and “deal with what came against me.” That distinction matters. 🖤🌿 #HerbalMagic #MateriaMagica #BanefulMagic #Rootwork #Hoodoo
