Reflecting on the approximately seven months since becoming Empress following the Emperor’s enthronement in May, she described the congratulations received from the public as a source of "great support as I move forward on the path ahead." In the statement, Her Majesty expressed a sense of "relief and happiness" at the conclusion of the series of enthronement-related ceremonies. She conveyed her gratitude for the "truly warm and unexpected congratulations" received from so many citizens during events such as the National Celebration held in November and the *Shukuga-Onretsu-no-Gi* (Celebratory Parade), noting that the smiles of the people she encountered over these past seven months have become "irreplaceable memories." She also pointed out that the goodwill shown by the public was largely due to the fact that the Emperor Emeritus and Empress Emerita had "stood by the people for so long and fulfilled their duties admirably." She reiterated her "deep respect" for the Emperor Emeritus and expressed her concern for the Empress Emerita, who underwent surgery for breast cancer this past September. Her Majesty has been undergoing medical treatment since December 2003. In her statement, she also expressed gratitude to the Emperor for "always being considerate of my health." She wrote of her determination to strive toward recovery while also "making every effort to dedicate myself to the happiness of the people." Regarding Her Majesty’s health, her medical team issued a statement on the same day, maintaining the same assessment as last year: that she remains "on the path to recovery."
