im not the best with explaining my feelings but i really want to mention how i saw this piece. to me it feels less like the fact that noelle’s mother is a “white mom” and doesn’t know how to take care of her child’s hair (but i still would understand if someone saw it that way), but more like she is doing this to make noelle more “presentable” & “perfect” in the eyes of others. for centuries there has been erasure of textured hair, we are still in a time where having an afro is seen as less presentable than having straight hair. personally i think it’s more about carol wanting people to perceive noelle as prim and proper, and it’s more internalized racist ideals instead of her actually being racist or something. please forgive my wording if this is awkward

I’m lowkey larping deltarune and whenever I see Noelle’s mom I just think of her as a black women(cause I like to think that Noelle is black due to see many headcanons from the fandom that I liked) and seeing this vid made me think of the texturism that happens within the black community epically with black parents(or moms if you will) and honestly I’m not sure if Noelle’s mom wants her to be perfect or not but she does I feel like this is another nail cause “straight” hair at times is can seen as perfect but honestly I’m just talking out my butt a bit 🤷♀️

This to me shows how a mom feels like Afros are not presentable to the public and it reminds me of my own life. A lot of the arguments I have with my family is because I love my hair the way it is. Society will seem to tell me and other black people that it’s not presentable and we need to fit into the society, but we don’t have to. We can be who we are, and we shouldn’t have to “fit” into this society, because we never did. We never will and we need to embrace it instead of trying to run from it or do everything to change their perception of us. It’s not just our hair that they want to see presentable but it’s all of us as a human. We shouldn’t have to dwindle ourselves into a box that we know we will never be able to fit so let’s embrace being outside of the box. Being more than society can handle. That’s what gives us our spark. That’s what I wish my family and other black people could understand.
