Things I refuse to spend money on as a 30 yr old who is good with money Pt 3 1. Purchasing a phone using a plan - Buying outright is 99% almost always the cheapest option. Not to mention, you are locked into a 24 month contract on average which if you terminate early, comes with hefty fees. I buy outright and get the best month to month sim only deal available. Tip🌱: When looking for a sim only deal, search up online for the best sign up bonus. 2. Fuelling up without using petrol apps or websites to check the cheapest price. Especially during a fuel hike crisis, the cheapest to most expensive fuel station can save you $20-$30 on average on a full tank. Why not research for 1-2 minutes to find the best price? Tip🌱: Use apps like Petrol Spy, 7-Eleven fuel lock to get the best deals. 3. Having too broad of a range of clothing - 80% of my wardrobe consists of black or white tees, this means during the week you’ll see me only wearing these t-shirts. I took a leaf out of Steve Jobs and Mark Zuckerberg, they wear the same thing every day and this saves having to choose what to wear. Instead the focus is on higher yielding tasks instead of what should I wear today. Tip🌱: When the t-shirts I like are on discount, I buy them in bulk. 4. Becoming complacent with subscriptions - The sport I was watching is finishing up its season? I’ll cancel my Kayo subscription, I haven’t watched anything on Netflix or Disney for more than 4 weeks? Cancel. These subscriptions can easily be auto set up again but people fall in the trap of ‘Oh I might need it again or I like the convenience’ this mindset is coming at a cost. Tip🌱: Track your spending so you know what your actually paying for month to month. You can’t fix what you don’t know. 5. Investments I don’t understand - I’ve lost too much money doing this and i’ll now only invest in something if i can clearly explain what the investment is and how it can grow overtime. Tip🌱: If you can’t explain it to a 10 year old clearly and for them to understand, then you shouldn’t be investing in it. If this resonated, follow for more finance content. ✅
