It’s complicated— the US is booming and not just because of AI, but it is also no longer the hyper military power it was: able to dominate the entire world. But when it comes down to it— these changes are slow, don’t expect any change for 200 years.

Thanks for trying to educate us….. and keep going. As a layman economist, I’ve been preaching this for 15 years to whomever would listen. Most people won’t take action until inflation starts biting them in the ass or worse. My estimate is that about 15% of the population will be proactive to prepare for the dollar devaluation and buy the hard assets needed such as precious metals and land (even some overseas). But the other 85% are going to suffer.

You get it and you are smart. I like that you explained the macro side of central banks confidence in the US dollar. You touched on the consequences if that confidence fails but that is THE single worst part for a society, the realization that everything they have worked for was just for the moment and now they have nothing. Hyperinflation wipes the slate clean but it has never been seen in a nation this size. Planning for that eventuality by accumulating gold is a cross between a deathwish and a fantasy. $40 trillion in debt always ends up in a global war. I have asked AI how to pay it off and the answer requires numerous and monstrous changes in US policies which these politicians will never take to prevent what's coming. They create problems and then decades later another set of politicians react to the catastrophe.

I have a question. In the 1940 war bonds, in the 1970's we were encouraged to buy bonds as American citizens. That no longer happens there is no push for the citizens to own bond instead we outsourced jobs and bond purchase to China, Japan (which are the top 2). Did this weaken the dollar?
