The battery issue isn’t a surprise, OEM protocols are probably that the full battery needs to be replaced in addition to the damaged parts rather than just the damaged battery modules. Insurance needs to follow protocol. I don’t agree with it but it does mean you could get a bargain if you know what you’re looking at.

thats mainly why EV insurance is expensive....insurers bin the car if there is any chance the battery has been damaged.

Write-offs mean to add to statistical figures and to justify charging everyone higher premiums

£80,000+ worth of EVs WRITTEN OFF… yet BOTH were repairable?! 😳💸 Are insurers too scared of EV batteries — or are these write-offs justified? YES or NO? 👇

Who’d of thought it was a good idea to put the most expensive and volatile part of the car a mere inches above the road AND incorporate vital parts into a thin aluminum sheet!

The insurance company will always go on the side of safety and cost , e.v. vehicles have a reputation for going up in smoke so they take no chances plus they usually have a deal with the salvage companies to pay a decent percentage of the value of the vehicles no matter the condition.

You have to question, does this also increase the insurance for ICE car owners because the EV car write-offs are so much expensive than ICE cars and more common 🤔

The insurance companies only use oem parts that’s why they are written off.

I love great mechanics like this. There isn’t enough though which is why they are written off. In time it will be so much easier to keep an EV running and it will take more to get it written off. I love my EVs!
