@offenceregister: Edinburgh Child Sex Offender Akbar Ali Jailed For Six Years 👇 FULL CASE DETAILS BELOW 👇 Historical child sex offender Akbar Ali has been sentenced to six years' imprisonment after being convicted of a series of sexual assaults, including attempted rape, against two young children in Edinburgh. The High Court heard that Ali carried out the offences between 1996 and 1998, subjecting both child victims to a sustained campaign of abuse that caused lasting trauma. Following a police inquiry by Police Scotland's specialist detectives, Ali was brought to trial and convicted of the offences at the High Court in Livingston on 7 August 2026. Appearing back before the High Court in Livingston for sentencing on Wednesday 30 September 2026, the judge handed Ali an immediate six-year custodial sentence. He was also made subject to mandatory notification requirements on the Sex Offenders Register. Detective Inspector Steph Garnett praised the victims for their courage throughout the court process, reiterating that sexual crimes have no place in society.
