Thicket Craft Forge :
Its wood puts off more heat than almost any other wood when burned. It is exceptionally dense and woodworkers either hate it or love it due to that density.

We live in southern IL. My husband calls them HedgeApples. He says you can throw them under your house and they will repel spiders.

We called them hedge apples. Put one in your closet to deter pests. Throw one at your enemy to break his nose.

they are edible. They just don’t taste good however deer and raccoons and squirrels and other animals will eat them. Old sage is a very, very hard wood. A lot of people like to make long bows out of this wood. It will do a lot of chainsaw pretty quick great firewood very dense.

The Osage orange or horse apple comes from the bois de ark (pronounced bow dark) tree. this tree has very strong dense wood, often covered in large thorns. The wood burns hot enough to run a metal forge with and since the wood was so strong and durable, many native American tribes specifically used it to make their bows.

Yeah pronounced O-sage. In Missouri we call them hedge apples. The wood is very dense and used for fence posts and if burn in a wood stove gets very hot. I’ve heard if you are ever bored and at the top of a hill you can roll those hedge apples down, sort of bowling, and it make a strike on a car door going down the highway.😉
