On September 30, Martinez traveled to Tennessee and waited for hours to witness Christa Pike’s execution. But the execution failed. Pike survived two doses of pentobarbital and remains critically ill, unconscious and on a ventilator, according to her attorneys. Now Morgan Seeley, Colleen’s niece, says her grandmother has been devastated by what happened. Seeley said Martinez has not eaten for three days and has struggled to even talk about the experience. “She wanted to get justice,” Seeley said. “Christa serving, being in prison was not justice.” And now there are questions nobody can answer yet: Will Pike survive?
