@drgreghealth: Here are the three most common mistakes I see women make that end up speeding up their aging process. I've been a functional medicine doctor for more than 25 years, and not one of these three is about wrinkles. Mistake number one: Chronic undereating. Crash diets and constant calorie cutting read to your body as a threat, not a goal, and your body responds by raising cortisol and slowing your metabolism to protect you. The opposite of what you thought you were going for. Years of this pattern is one of the most common things I see walking through my door, in women who eat very little and still can't lose weight. Mistake two: Skipping strength training. Women lose roughly three to eight percent of their muscle mass per decade, starting as early as their thirties. Muscle is one of the most metabolically active, blood sugar regulating, bone protecting tissues you have. Losing it isn't a cosmetic problem. It's an accelerant on nearly every marker of aging there is. Mistake number three: Treating sleep as optional. Deep sleep is when your body runs its actual repair and detox cycle. Cellular repair, hormone regulation, memory consolidation. Cut that short for years and you're not saving time, you're skipping the maintenance window your body was counting on. None of these are about how you look. They're about how fast your body is wearing out. Find the root. Heal the whole.

I do all of these, plus get so busy I don’t even drink. I end the week complaining to my husband about not feeling well and he runs through the food, water, sleep, exercise, stress checklist to remind me that I’m not managing any of them well 😂

Aging well is less about preserving youth and more about preserving capacity. Strength, recovery, and enough fuel are a big part of that.

I spent years in the gym and being a dancer. I did rotations of strength training and spin along with dance for 2 hours straight twice a week. I was friends with many trainers, so I ate as proper as I could. When I would go to the Dr because I was hurting, tired all the time and couldn’t lose weight at all. I found out that my cortisol was never the problem. It is metabolic syndrome and hypothyroidism. Even medication(Synthroid and Metformin) didn’t work. The only thing that worked is GLP-1. It has changed my life, in the metabolic sense.

I think the first might be the opposite 😳, at least for me I had a ed for years and a slower metabolism because of that, my skin is looking so good, have 0 wrinkles and 0 white hairs at 33 I always thought my ed slowed down the aging process for me lol ( at least got one good thing out of it )
