For those who are more familiar with the IPA, the short 'e' sound (as in 'pet') is technically represented by /ɛ/, which is reflected in the video's vowel chart. However, broad transcriptions and English dictionaries often simplify this by using the base symbol /e/ for the short 'e' sound and as the starting point for the diphthong /eɪ/.
