my baby just learned how to latch and she'll do this thing where she roots around and i latch her and she suckles a bit and then pops off and then it's just that over and over and over

hey nicki i have a question and im also asking for help. My baby is breastfed but i first had problems with my nipples of not staying hard and i tried everything and nothing worked so i had to start using a nipple shield. Well now that they have had time to point more, i try to latch him without it and he doesn’t open his mouth up enough to get a good latch and i’ve tried tickling his top lip and everything but he still doesn’t open his mouth enough for a good/better latch. do you have any recommendations or advice to help?

For your series on this, can you do the gecko hands (as I call them). My 3 month olds hand seem to be sticky grippy on my skin and there’s so much friction. So he has his hands on the breast when feeding and every time he moves them it’s tugs the breast and rips the latch (the pain !!!). Apparently the “sticky” grip is normal but they don’t slid across my skin so an open hand pulls skin with it.

I am struggling. I am exclusively pumping but would love to breastfeed, but baby is constantly screaming at the breast and will only latch for a couple minutes and scream again. (baby was born IUGR, 37 weeks at 4lbs1oz)

my breast fed baby (6 weeks) is soo gassy even when I burp him after every feed idk what to do, gas drops don’t really work either

@BabyWhisperer Nicki-RN, IBCLC how can we work on correcting a shallow latch on an OLDER baby (7ish months)? The pain/vasospasms are enough to end the journey.
