@soberdad84: Alcohol withdrawal can start within hours, often feels worst in the first few days, and for many people the physical symptoms begin easing after that. But getting alcohol out of your system and learning how to live without it are two very different things. The withdrawal may last days. Rebuilding the routines, triggers and habits around drinking takes longer. If you’ve been drinking heavily or you’re worried about withdrawal, talk to a medical professional before stopping abruptly. #soberdad #sobercoach #sobriety #quitdrinking #recovery
Quitting is easy. The problem is I don’t want to quit.

I drank 1 liter of vodka for 10 years
it took dozens of er Visits and 7 week long stays in the hospital for me to quit
I would start to withdraw about 30 hrs of no alcohol
been sober almost 3 years now 😁

I finally, this year, checked into a 7-day detox and I gotta say even with the withdrawal it was a vacation. 3 meals and can lay down all day or watch TV and socialize. All the required meds to keep the symptoms to a bare minimum. I felt great at the end of the week.

I only drink a few on the weekends. and I've had restless leg syndrome since I was a kid before I knew what alcohol was . but as I grew up drinking a few beers helps relax it. so what your saying is not 100 percent correct.

It can kill you. I went through it a couple of times. It is horrifying. I’m being blunt because they need to know the truth. The vomiting, hallucinations, heart beating out of your chest. I’m sober now for over 20 years. If you decide to quit please get help before trying to quit.

You must be talking to people that really didn’t drink much. For those of us that were actually alcoholics it is way worse than you explain. For those not wanting to go to a detox go to your doctor at the very least and get put on a Librium tapper.

Idk… I quit on 8/11/25… 8/19/25 the ambulance got to me just a few hours before I would have been gone. I wish I would have gotten professional help. Idk if I just thought I didn’t drink that much or what, but it wasn’t good. Over a year sober now.

Thanks. I’m trying again. But I gotta find a therapist and maybe go to meetings. The alcohol has just been my numbing med for several years.

I was drinking about 20 hours out of the day for almost 10 months. I couldn’t sleep for more than 3-4 hours before waking up and feeling like absolute 💀. I knew I was beyond detoxing at home so I went to detox and then to a 30 day residential facility and so happy I did. I’m 6 weeks sober today and it’s an amazing feeling waking up and not in withdrawal or having my first thought be “damn, I need a drink right now”
