@carolineestelleart: Most of my oil paintings are built layer by layer, and the process is slower than people expect. I start with a colorful underpainting, then wait for each layer to dry before painting the next. From there it’s a constant back and forth between scumbling lighter flesh tones over the surface and glazing transparent darker layers to bring the depth back in. I keep repeating that process until the underpainting stops reading as individual brushstrokes. The colors underneath are still there, but now they’re working together to create the depth and luminosity instead of competing for attention. These are only a few snapshots of the process. There were a lot more layers in between. #oilpaintingtechniques #contemporaryoilpainting #figurativeart#icecreamart#creatorsearchinsights
