Years are important/special/sentimental to people. The year I was born (2000) will always be a special year to me. I proposed to my now fiance this year so 2026 will always be a special year to me. I think most people who do this aren’t getting a watch just because of the year. It’s usually a watch they like anyways and having it be produced on their birth year is a nice touch. The “connection” is not solely the year imo. I don’t think anyone’s entire collection is birth year. Can just be a nice addition to a collection.

At this point I really try to just buy a watch for milestone events, work related, birth of child, major birthday....a birth year watch is a bit of a loop hole that can be bought anytime, still looking for one although I am being particular I won't buy something simply because its birth year but if its a model id like and birth year id pull the trigger. Although a birth year exact birth date dated card might make a exemption

so why buy any watch? They are already over priced and not worth the money. The reason you pay more for legacy/luxury brands is because of history and branding. That’s all a birth year is as well

I am considering getting a “birth year” for my 40th bday next year… for me, it will be finding something I like and knowing it is 40-ish years old. I like the idea of having something on my wrist that is as old as me… shows the craftsmanship for something that complex to keep ticking
