nobody talks about what happens to your friendships when you start growing. but i get asked about this all the time. and i’ve lived it more than i’d like to admit. for a long time i thought i was the problem. maybe i was being too much. maybe i was making people feel bad just by existing in my growth and i didn’t want that — because my whole life i’ve been a people pleaser to my core. if shrinking myself meant everyone else was comfortable, i was okay with that. and growing up in an Asian household you already have thick skin from a young age. the comments, the comparisons, the unspoken pressure to not stand out too much. so when it started coming from friends? honestly it didn’t break me the way it probably should have. i was already used to it. but here’s what i’ve noticed working with my coaching clients and connecting with other creators on this journey — everyone has gone through this. you start building. you start posting. you make the decision to do something most people won’t do. and the people closest to you? some of them go quiet. they watch your content and keep scrolling. they know exactly what you’re trying to build and can’t find one second to like a post or leave a comment — but they’re watching. and that silence? it says everything. it’s not about you. when you decide to grow, you become a mirror to the people around you. and not everyone is ready to look at their own reflection. the ones who pull away or project onto you are not reacting to who you are — they’re reacting to who they haven’t become yet. so if you’ve been shrinking yourself to keep the peace, second guessing whether you’re too much, or wondering why the people closest to you can’t seem to show up for you the way you show up for them — you are not the problem. you are not alone. and the right people? they’re out there. some of them are going to find you because of the very content you almost didn’t post. keep going. ♥️ if you’ve been through this and made it to the other side — drop your advice below. someone scrolling needs to hear it. 🖤
