I think no matter how, service & maintenance on time is still vital. If a German car does it regularly, it should last long as well. In fact, nowadays Japanese cars are cutting corners..quality is slowly going down

the reason isn't engineering but economy. the Germans wants your car to pass out as soon as possible so you would spent another 30k on a brand new car. the Japaneses aim for quality and reliability, no matter what

there are much Audi, Bmw, Mercedes with over 500k out there. Even a M3 F80 was sold in Germany with 500k. You see also the over 30 years old M3 E36 still driving his fast laps on the Nurburgring.

The difference is the Germans have to comply with the most strict emissions standards. Everything is designed to comply. This in turn creates stricter maintenance. Fail to undertake maintenance, your fuqed. Just follow the rule book the Germans played out and your fine. I have a VW golf r, with 220,000 kms, and it hasn’t missed a beat. It’s because I maintain it properly.

I am sorry but!
1. Japanese engines have much smaller tolerances.
2. Oh yes they produce more power!
3. Specially HONDA engines consume less fuel...
