#كلا_للقانون_الجعفريThe Jaafari law is entirely depriving of women's rights. If a man kills a woman, he isn't even held accountable. The harshest punishment might be three years or less, and he can easily be released on bail. Even in custody cases, if a woman gets a divorce, the man gets custody. There was even a man in prison who was given custody despite being incarcerated. Another woman had her husband take indecent photos of her while she was sleeping and publish them. When she filed for divorce, the court refused because it wasn't considered sufficient grounds. If a woman experiences domestic violence and reports it to the police, they won't do anything except make the perpetrator sign a pledge. If her husband abuses her and her family tries to intervene, they will be punished legally. And there are countless other unjust laws. Share this comment and the hashtag #NoToJaafariLaw everywhere so everyone knows. To everyone with a voice, to everyone with the power to do something for women in Iraq and contribute to change: Please, let my voice reach women's rights organizations. Imagine being born into a life that feels like a prison. Imagine being taught that your entire existence must revolve around a husband and child—that your worth is measured by how well you please them, how silently you endure the unbearable, and how much of yourselves you are willing to sacrifice. And then, the very child to whom you have dedicated your life can be taken from you. In my country, women have been given only a tiny space to live as human beings. We are expected to be mothers, wives, and caregivers before we are allowed to be individuals with our own dreams, choices, voices, and lives. And now, even motherhood itself can be taken from us. How much more must women lose before the world listens to us? Please, hear our voices. Please, help us be seen. Please, do not let Iraqi women continue to hide behind laws, traditions, and systems that were never built to protect them.
