when I had carpet beetles I would vacuum, sprinkle baking soda over the area then shampoo the carpet but instead of the carpet cleaner stuff you put in the water tank I would use vinegar and they disappeared at least for a few months. they do come back in the summer but as long as I keep up with vacuuming and shampooing I rarely see them
