@bliss_renovations: FROM RUSTED TO RESTORED!!! This roof structure had significant rust and corrosion across the steel framework. The rust was not simply painted over the affected areas. We properly prepared, cleaned and treated before applying the protective coating system. Just to remind you, Rust forms when steel is exposed to oxygen and moisture. This causes an electrochemical reaction known as oxidation, which gradually breaks down the steel and produces the reddish-brown corrosion we see as rust. In simple terms, Lack on maintenance cause rust. If not treated, , rust can continue spreading and may eventually weaken the steel structure, especially where moisture remains trapped or the protective coating has deteriorated. Our approach included: - Preparation of the rust-affected steel - Removal of loose and deteriorated corrosion - Cleaning and preparation of the surfaces - Application of a protective coating system - Final painting to protect the steel from further exposure to moisture. Proper preparation is the key to a lasting paint finish. With this project, it took us almost a week while doing preparation work. Painting over loose rust without addressing the underlying corrosion can result in premature coating failure.
