@tylerallison92: It seems like many people are struggling to land jobs that can get them to the point of affording a median house in Canada and the US. The US is definitely ahead of Canada but it’s still not great. Many of the “regular” jobs in Canada are for $50k-$75k/year and have hundreds of people applying to the positions. Those wages unfortunately make it nearly impossible to ever save a down payment and truly impossible to qualify for the mortgage. In the oilfield, we’re not rich. We’re making a sacrifice to get a moderate and comfortable lifestyle. The reality is that now requires approximately a $2M net worth or ability to spend $200k/year ($300k+ before tax) because everything is financed.
Or just run your own business. So you don’t Have to waste your life away from your family working in the oil fields.

Hello sir, I am in need of a job in the oilfield with no experience, I have no major priorities. I need to start my life over. Is there a way we can talk or you can connect me to anyone.

Lots of people just don’t wanna work for it anymore. Easier to criticize the successful than go out and earn it. So tired of the entitlement of so many Canadians

so true. My husband doing it for 25 years lost his international job because of the Pandemic. Been building our life back for the last 5 years, while putting adult children through university. 250k is not what is used to be and we already pay enough taxes, and receive no government incentives.

Wage disparity creates inflation that’s not sustainable for others not making those higher end wages. The labor market will eventually move towards the money when others can’t survive doing what they are doing due to the higher inflation created by job disparity in wages. 🥺🥺

As a young engineer, making barely 3000 a month in Atlantic Canada, how transferrable is what I studied to the OIL field? And is it easy to get back into the engineering or design or typical stable office job environment after? Are there any transferrable skills when you get out?

I agree. 200k for a family isn't a lavish lifestyle. kids sports are expensive plus have to invest for retirement

More like how can you tell that your TikTok is reaching an audience that doesn’t understand – just do it. As a young female, I worked three jobs and took university courses and got my degree in business and started my own consulting company and I worked night and day for years and I bought my first house when I was 22 years old. 🤷🏻♀️trust me slinging beers for a bunch of rednecks to end your day as the third job wasn’t the highlight but it sure paid the bills and RSP‘s and vacations.
