Boys are raised differently than girls. Daughters spend more time with people than boys do. Daughters get talked to and their hair done, boys are just given a comfort object to keep them quiet and left in a room by themselves. So as men we have no idea how to regulate ourselves when there’s people around and need to be left in a room with a comfort object that keeps us quiet.

This is very important. Marriage is a transition and old habits are hard to leave. Most of us have lived alone for a substantial part of our adult life. So once in a while, we want to slip into that state of being. I also lookout for when she wants alone time and I take the boy away so she rests. No words needed

Most of the time, 90 percent of what they need to sort out is for the wife and children. Cooling time is essential and I never deprive my husband of it and anytime he realize I'm in that mood as well, he let me be and even sent me a word of prayer " May Allah ease our affairs ". This country is hard already and we needs to take it easy on each other. When we finish the cooling period, we opened up to each other and address what makes the heart heavy during that period.

It’s not just a guy thing; if somebody tries to engage with me when I’m frustrated, tired, etc. I can get pretty cranky too and need alone time pretty much daily, more than any of my family does. That’s your time to pour back into yourself

I am new to marriage and yes, this is very important. Sometimes you just want to have a peaceful alone time to think, not think, and just breath and take it all in. Especially with the whole pressure and crazy inflation in Nigeria.
