I graduated high school in the early 90’s. My dad didn’t encourage me at all to stay on the farm. By the late 90’s, things were starting to look better. But my younger brother isn’t Gen X. He stayed on the farm

I’m Gen-X and was never discouraged to farm. Was the only sibling that went to college. Worked off the farm after graduation then came back in 2000 and started farming. Very grateful I had the opportunity.

My grandpa had a dairy farm,50 head. My dad was a farm mechanic for New Holland. I do wanted to be a farmer or a farm mechanic. They both discouraged me because it is a hi stress business and a dying one in our area.
